As far as discrete portable vapes go, the OG iolite blew everything else out of the water. But looking back on it now, there's a couple of problems with it: it gets a little hotter than a lot of the newer guys, it takes about 3-5 clicks for it to go, and you can't see how much butane is left in it so there's a bit of guesswork involved. It's also mostly plastic. I recommend checking out the WISPR (by the same guys) because it is an "upgrade" of sorts, but it does cost some more dough. The pros and cons aren't all in favor of the WISPR though. I have used it over and over a few times on a large load, but I know some has to be wasted during all the heat up-cool down time. But fairly small, portable, an internal thermostat for 190 degree maintenance and a large fuel tank (about 2 hrs operation per fill) make it very well designed. And they come in some whacky colors. I want to be able to vap in public places very discretely, such as in parking lots, public parks, on city sidewalks, etc. I avoided all devices requiring an external lighter, as well as all resembling a pipe of any type. The Iolite arrived yesterday. Although I've used it for only this short period, I have mastered the technique quickly. My successful approach has been: Load your tobacco; then, I recommend igniting the Iolite. Discipline yourself to let it warm up a bit (this is crucial)...it's not going to be a perfect draw if you instead flip it on, and hit it immediately after the glow dims. You may safely hold the unit in your hand during the warm up. Following this warm up, begin to draw GENTLY on the Iolite. This needs to be done wispy and lightly, and inhale in this manner as long as you wish. You are not trying to pull a golf ball through a garden hose! Toking it too hard seems to not yield either more, or better, product. I have found the above technique to generate a nice, nice product. I did not rate the Iolite at all 5s, for there is yet an unknown me providing a valid review: Airports. I am hoping that this unit, when cleaned, and with the butane evacuated, can be placed in checked bags, without risking a scene..(??) PS: One commenter on this thread had complained that the unit would not turn off. I thought the same, at first, but it IS actually off. I, like others, have found the key to use is to let it run with the bowl empty for a couple of cycles, then add your ground product, then let that run filled for three cycles and draw slow and steady with a gradual inhale of breath. I get a great amount of vapor for two people for a good 20-30 minute session, or a couple of 10 minute sessions. Occasionally, the trigger doesn't ignite the butane every time, but you just gotta take it slow and give it a few clicks. I am fully impressed. Make sure to let it heat a minimum of three (3) cycles and you are good to go( be certain to know your limit or you may over medicate). i was skeptical up till the point when i used the Iolite then all that went right out the window. Huge plumes of vapor( if your not getting it w8 a few it will heat and you will get).Be sure to draw slow but put a little into it.A full bowl should last bout a half (1/2) hour, If you purchase the optimizer ( I recomend) your bowl will not last as long but will almost hurt you once full heat is reached. So when it came to choose, I picked the Iolite for 2 reasons primarily; the fact that the unit utilizes butane rather than electricity, and second, the color choices. I went back to GotVape.com, just as I did before to purchase my Extreme, and I bought the GotVape Green Iolite. I loved their wide variety of colors, but the Dark Green, which only GotVape carries, really got me. I received my Iolite within 2 days of purchasing the unit, and starting vaping. The unit is very sleek, and also very easy to operate. I just filled the unit with the provided butane, turned the switch to one, the ignited the unit and started vaping right away. The provided comfort pack that GotVape offers for free really increased the quality of the vapor, and made it easier to hit. Overall, I very satisfied with my purchase. The unit I received didn't come with butane. I read all the instructions, filled the unit after I found butane for it. Worked fine until I wanted to turn it off, the unit would keep running and reheating. I wasn't messed up to the point that I couldn't see the O or on off switch. I've tried it to the point that I feel I will wear out the on off switch. Just got this product, but from what I read in the reviews I'm in for a long wait after I return it, waiting for the determination of faulty product or not. For some $200 isn't much, but I expect a good product for that price. Any tips on turning it off? I normally blow out the flame after waiting for it to shut down and I wait for more than three minutes and it is in the off position. I'd be happy to pay $200 for a replacement if I broke it, but having to return it and then wait without a replacement is poor customer service. How about sending a replacement holding on the credit card charge until someone determines the problem? If it is my fault, I'll pay, if it is a defective product, no harm no fowl. It appears the only way to contact Got Vape with a problem is a phone call, maybe some email problem solving, warranty solution option would be nice. My iolite came with 2 fillings chambers with screens, my iolite burned a hole through the first one within a week. And my 2nd had holes in it a couple weeks after use. Which seems really quick and not very cost friendly just because a replacement pack of 3 costs $15. Everybody was on the new NO2's sack, but to me the iolite is still the king. It's smaller, it has more vaping time. Some people complain about different aspects of this vaporizer. I tend to think they want everything now. I like it because if I use it the way I like to, I can load up herb, fire it up, and have 15-20 minutes of pure enjoyment. This unit is nicely discreet. Many people seeing it would think it is some kind of medical device... which it is, depending on your viewpoint. Because of the way I use this, my herb lasts fairly long, the downside is that it is slower to use. If I want fast vapor performance without portability, the Vapor Genie's (both wood and glass) give faster results. In My Opinion, this unit is for some and not for others. I am pleased with my purchase, and the gotvape people included the pieces to make this usable. Without a grinder, or the clear plastic hose (medical tubing with a mouthpiece), this would not be a fun product to try to use. As it is, with the additions (one of the few cases I can think of a reseller adding value) from gotvape.com, this is a pleasantly usable unit. The current units don't use a screen under the herb, it is a solid piece with the heating element (all metal) cast in the center. So, you probably won't need too many extra screens. This also makes cleaning almost a non issue. If you have the opportunity, it would be good to try this unit from someone that already has one, before you spend the money. It worked a couple times but it always took forever to light. I thought I was like many others who complain about it until they figure out how to operate it. This was not the case with mine. After only working a couple times it simply would not light. Two weeks after I bought it I took it back to the dispensary. The people there played with it and couldn't get it to light either. They told me to return it to the manufacturer. Here's where my main frustration comes in. I shipped it back to Iolite (in the US because the main manufacturer is in Ireland) and that was a month ago. I called after a couple weeks to find out how long it would take to get it back. The person was like "Oh, it takes at least 14 days for us to process it" When I asked why so long I got the response, "Well, at least this will be a lot faster than if you shipped it to Ireland" (which must be where the main manufacturer is). After 3 weeks I emailed them to find out when I would get it back and they said it had been shipped. I'm thinking UPS or Fedex. Nope, they mailed it US mail so it will take like 10 days to get from Illinois to Colorado. I understand that any manufacturer can produce a defective product from time to time. However, I've done my homework online and by talking to people at dispensaries where these are sold and this product has a track record of having problems. Iolite knows this. When you pay $250 for a vape that doesn't work right out of the box they should be able to test it and ship you a new one right away and when I say ship, I mean by UPS or Fedex. I get the feeling there are a total of 3 people working at this company. Ultimately, I was very impatient So about a month ago a purchased the iolite and after using it a few times I was way more than disappointed. I was about ready to return it. Hence my previous review below. I'm now pleased to say that I absolutely love this product. After initially being less than pleased with the results, I spent a lot of time researching the product and came across a forum that had a thread dedicated just for the iolite. after reading through all the pages, I immediately realized there were several things I was doing wrong. When I read the instructions, I assumed that it would take less than a minute to heat up before I could begin using it. I now let the unit run two cycles before packing it and then once packed, I let it run for another 3 cycles before taking the first draw. Before,I was also pulling really hard when I would take a draw from it and then would be disappointed when I exhaled and saw nothing. I learned that you need to take very slow draws on it in order to get a good hit. I pretend like I'm sipping on a cocktail straw and pull for about 15-20 seconds before stopping. Even when I hold the hits in for a good amount of time, I can now exhale and see very visible vapor clouds. This unit has seriously changed the way I smoke. In fact, I rarely smoke anymore. Just vape. :-) On a side note, make sure to order extra mouthpieces. They tend to break pretty easily, even the newer ones. I'm so happy with this product now that I really felt I needed to correct my previous review. I would definitely recommend this vape now. I began researching different vapes and when it was all said and done, I had my heart set on the iolite. What really sold me was the convenience factor and that it seemed extremely easy to use. Not to mention, I didn't need to use a torch to heat it. I kept reading reviews of people exhaling thick clouds of vapor and it seemed almost to good to be true. Needless to say, I finally decided to buy the iolite and it has far from exceeded my expectations. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what but after I take a draw from the iolite and exhale, I hardly see anything let alone feel the effects. I don't believe that my unit is defective as it does get quite hot but I guess maybe I expected more out of it. I feel as if I'm wasting my herb as opposed to prolonging it. As others have mentioned, the herb chamber does easily come off and I've already lost 2 bowls worth because of that. I definitely can't complain that it's difficult to use. It's very simple and quick to get going. It's also extremely convenient which almost makes up for the fact that the draws aren't very full. Honestly, I would not recommend this vaporizer. I own 9 vaporizers. Each has some benefits and each has its own deficiencies. I will not compare any of them to the Iolite because the Iolite is in a class of its own. The Iolite fired up in about 60 seconds and was ready to vape. I was instructed by Got Vape to only put 5X butane into this instrument as it would perform best with 5X. When the friendly staff at GotVape tells me something I listen because I have found them correct and friendly about teaching me how to best use all the vaporizers I have bought from them and others. I got glass vaporizering tubes, ac vaporizers, dc vaporizers, digital vaporizers, vaporizors that use bic lighters, and a vaporizor that uses a torch and hot boxes. The reason I brought this up is because each has a learning curve and a art to make them function correct. Let me tell you that there is no learning curve on the Iolite. I idiot can't screw this up. Within 60 seconds of turning it on the heat light went out and was ready for use. I took a draw on the tube for less than 5 seconds and when I released it a hugh vapor cloud came out and disappeared into thin air in a second. Zero smoke all vape. I took a second inhale and exactly the same thing happened. The flavor of the medicinal was sweeter and more pure than any thing I ever experienced. I shut it down and as insturcted by GotVape I produced another draw while shutting off. I am 61 years old and have been on meds for 45 years and I was perfectly happy at that point. Several hours later I looked inside and saw mostly green meds left and started it again. Exactly the same result. In less than 2 minutes each time I was done. A couple of hours later I did the same thing and got the same vape. This was without changing the meds. No burn. I am not sure but I don't think you can burn with this thing. I opened it up a couple of hours later, mixed up what was in the original load and vaped again. I find this a very satisfatory alternative to smoking. I get through about an ounce of pipe tobacco a week (about £5). I was previously smoking 20 cigarettes a day which equates to £40 a week, so over the course of a year its saved me a lot of money and improved my health. I also now have a much better social life because there are no restrictions on using it inside bars, cinemas etc. The product has been progressively improved and refined since it was launched in 2008. I've found the early models were a bit unreliable and I've had to send several units back to the Oglesby & Butler for replacement. This has never been a problem - fast, efficient, polite after sales service, and the latest replacement units which I have received are far more robust and reliable than the early models. However I received a circular from Oglesby & Butler several weeks ago stating that they would no longer honour the warranty on units purchased from unauthorised dealers. I suggest therefore that you purchase directly from GotVape.com or MyIolite.com. It's a little more expensive (£157 as against £120), but at least you can be assured that you are buying the very latest model, and that any warranty problems will be avoided in the future. I got this vape as a package deal when I bought my Volcano. The guy told me this was the best portable vape on the market. He wasn't lying. The packaging was first class. After reading the short instructions, I then filled the unit with butane. It would have been better if the manufacture had built in some type of gage on the unit to tell you how much butane was in the unit or would tell you when it was full. They should add that feature to the next units. Anyway, after filling the unit I then turned it on, hit the igniter button. Sometimes you may need to hit the button a second time. I then could hear a hissing sound coming from the unit which tells me it is heating up. The folks at Gotvape recommended that I let it heat up for a few minutes before loading it with herb. You will need to buy a grinder to grind the hear first. I bought a really nice one from Gotvape. After loading the unit with herb I then let it sit for 2 minutes before taking a hit. The unit comes with a mouth piece which comes in different pieces so you can extent it making it longer. It also comes with some tubing if you like that instead. The mouthpiece does get warm so I prefer making it longer. Worked out great. After taking a few hits I noticed that when I exhaled I didn't see much of anything. I first thought to myself that the unit wasn't working right. Sure enough, a few minutes later I could feel the strong effects. It kind of creeped up on me. I'm impressed as to how easy it is to operate this unit. I doubt that many other vaporizers are this easy to use. I even decided to take it with me out in public to give it a try. Sure enough, not one person had any idea what it was. It looks like a cell phone and fits in the hand perfectly. The plastic it is made of is pharmaceutical grade plastic so the unit is very lite. It even came with a cool case for it. One thing I was very impressed with was the staff at Gotvape. I've called them a few times after getting the unit and asked many questions. They gave me many good tips and always made me felt welcome to call anytime. Also, my transactions with them have been fast and professional. One thing is for sure, these people want their customers to be happy and that comes across. Anyway, the Iolite is a very cool product which does everything they say it can do. I recommend it.
