One of the batteries wouldn't work from the beginning, even if charged - it will only last one or two doses. I've been using the vaporizer for the past 6 months & its already refusing to work on battery at all. It must be plugged in to heat up at all, and then sometimes it will sporatically run up/down in temp - never quite getting to the right temp, which in turn - has just wasted your medicine. I have a set of hot rollers that I paid 25 dollars for, 15 yrs ago. They still work like a charm. THAT is getting your money's worth. Changes from the iolite: No more hot plastic mouthpiece. The whole unit runs cooler than the OG iolite. No more trying hard to start it - 2 clicks and you're there. You can see how much butane is in it now. It has this retro look that works so well, I just leave it out on the counter and people poke at it having no idea what it is or what it does. Overall, I highly recommend it. As far as discrete portable vapes go, the OG iolite blew everything else out of the water. But looking back on it now, there's a couple of problems with it: it gets a little hotter than a lot of the newer guys, it takes about 3-5 clicks for it to go, and you can't see how much butane is left in it so there's a bit of guesswork involved. It's also mostly plastic. I recommend checking out the WISPR (by the same guys) because it is an "upgrade" of sorts, but it does cost some more dough. The pros and cons aren't all in favor of the WISPR though. I liked how one button allows me to turn it on & select my temp level. For me, it was all about the Boost Mode because that setting produced a thick vapor. At first, I was intrigued just by the name of this unit since Blunts are my preferred method of consumption. However, I am 35 years old and I know that Vaporizing is a much healthier alternative. The failing is the "or" part, u rarely get to choose what it's going to do. The flame adjustment is extremely touchy, and if set too low, no vape, too high - smoke. In fact, it seems on mine, the only way to successfully vape is to set the set screw so low that it won't ignite on it's own, and an outside flame source is needed. An inconvenience, particularly since this unit was reportedly designed "for 1-hand operation by skiers and snowboarders." Needing a 2nd lighter removes that function. The reason I only gave it a 2 overall, is the Warranty. There is none. And, I admit, the manufacturer explicitly says in the book (inside the box, once you've bought it) that the unit is sold "as is." Caveat emptor, to the max. I want to be able to vap in public places very discretely, such as in parking lots, public parks, on city sidewalks, etc. I avoided all devices requiring an external lighter, as well as all resembling a pipe of any type. The Iolite arrived yesterday. Although I've used it for only this short period, I have mastered the technique quickly. My successful approach has been: Load your tobacco; then, I recommend igniting the Iolite. Discipline yourself to let it warm up a bit (this is crucial)...it's not going to be a perfect draw if you instead flip it on, and hit it immediately after the glow dims. You may safely hold the unit in your hand during the warm up. Following this warm up, begin to draw GENTLY on the Iolite. This needs to be done wispy and lightly, and inhale in this manner as long as you wish. You are not trying to pull a golf ball through a garden hose! Toking it too hard seems to not yield either more, or better, product. I have found the above technique to generate a nice, nice product. I did not rate the Iolite at all 5s, for there is yet an unknown me providing a valid review: Airports. This little unit looks like a wallet from my girl friend's purse. The stealth nature of the device and it's effectiveness really cement the value of vaporizing. I do find that you need to carefully aim the hot air to different areas in the mouth as the initial shot of air is HOT! The flexible mouth piece makes that easy though. Also vaporized air is more efficient than smoked air. The economies make your herbs last at least three times as long. I also find that I appreciate the taste of the herbs more when they are vaporized. A few insights: I find a lower heat setting around 350 keeps the herb from getting scorched and may extend the effectiveness of the herb. While the handiness of the battery allows one to use it w/out a power source you likely will only get 2-3 short sessions out of the battery before you'll need a recharge---don't expect to take a 5 day back packing trip with it unless you have a solar charger. Also it is a little slow to get all the way up to temp w/the battery--even more reason to use a little lower temp. Don't worry tho, every thing including you, gets cooked at sub 350F. Road trips, however, are quite enjoyable with a DC inverter ($12) or the optional car charger. Allowing 15-30 seconds before drawing each time will give excellent hits and be careful cause you can get pretty vaped with a half dozen pulls. Customer service: after 6 months of consistent use the device was left on and apparently the unit did not shut off as it is supposed to do. Therefore it acted erratically before dying completely. I notified the company, they determined from the number on the unit that it was purchased directly from them and said to just pack up the unit, battery and charger and send it back. Couple of days later I received a tracking number and after 6 days had a new (factory refurbished?) unit in a new box with all brand new accoutrements! It is charging now but does turn on--I'm sure it will work fine. Nice work Vapir! A couple of suggestions: buy it from Vapir and you may not get a great deal but they may be more willing to replace it (if it dies less than a year in) for those that don't use a reseller. Also when you buy your NO2 be sure to REGISTER THE WARRANTY ONLINE WITHIN 15 DAYS OF RECIEVING YOUR UNIT. If you don't that may be a deal-breaker if you do not purchase it from Vapir. I, like others, have found the key to use is to let it run with the bowl empty for a couple of cycles, then add your ground product, then let that run filled for three cycles and draw slow and steady with a gradual inhale of breath. I get a great amount of vapor for two people for a good 20-30 minute session, or a couple of 10 minute sessions. Occasionally, the trigger doesn't ignite the butane every time, but you just gotta take it slow and give it a few clicks. It works well for what it does, and is definatly worth the price. She's stopped using it, mostly due to the amount of herb she needs. It would take 2 to 3 bowls in the mini-vape to get the medicine she needs. Pro's: Works great, portable, discrete Con's: The tab on the battery pack plug broke off early on, so you have to hold the connector in the base of the unit. It's not super solid, so take great care. Be VERY careful cleaning the unit, it's very easy to destroy the circular screen. Small bowl. After about about of week of trying to get a decent vapor out of it, I could not. I tried to return the unit for another, but the store said they would be out of stock for awhile (poor service from manufacturer.) Instead, I was offered store credit for the unit, and dished out the extra 80$ for a No2, which is an excellent unit. So about 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine purchased a Magic Flight, against my advice. We opened it up at my house and we gave it a go. I was VERY happy with the improvement over my previously owned unit. The unit did not undergo any changes since I owned one months ago, but it seemed like it(maybe mine was defective?). The vapor was surprisingly dense, considering its coming from this little wood box. The Launch Box heats up fairly quick, but is pretty awkward having to hold a AA battery up to the unit. Speaking of the batteries, they are rechargeable, with charger included. I must say the batteries do die somewhat quick, but 2 are included with every unit so its not to bad. The ease of use on this unit appeared to be very difficult. Not user friendly at all in my opinion. I owned an Iolite but got this new bad boy and fell in love. I use this guy just about everyday. I never have to worry about if it is going to fire up or not. I really like the digital screen.
